This is the equivalent of what a Pentium (90MHz)
computer would take over 1300 years to compute being completed every day!
There are more than 44,000 individuals or groups participating, with more than 65,000
computers running the GIMPS software and communicating with the PrimeNet server.
Otterbein's Mathematical Sciences department currently has -3 computers
participating, currently generating zzz CPU hours
(Pentium 90MHz) each day.
History
On May 18, 2004 we began a trial run of the Prime95 software on a
single machine (Pentium 4, 2.1GHz). On June 18, after computing the equivalent of more than
three years of processing on a Pentium 90, it completed processing its
first Mersenne number (it wasn't prime ;^) ). At that point we ranked
more than 13,000th out of approximately 37,000 accounts. After further testing throughout the summer,
we began a department-wide deployment of the software in September 2004, with eventually more than 50 machines participating.

Milestones
- On Monday, September 13, 2004 we cleared our 50th exponent and completed 150 CPU years.
- On Tuesday, September 28, 2004 we completed 200 CPU years and entered the top 500 producers list.
- On Wednesday, October 13, 2004 we cleared our 100th exponent, completing over 315 CPU years.
- On Friday, October 15, 2004 we added the 50th departmental computer to the project.
- On Monday, October 18, 2004 we crossed the threshhold of 20,000 CPU hours of production per day, on average, ranking us in the top 15 producers by throughput.
- On Saturday, November 27, 2004 we cleared our 200th exponent and were averaging over 30,000 CPU hours per day.
- On Saturday, December 11, 2004 we joined the ranks of the top 100 producers, with over 800 CPU years completed!
- On Friday, January 7, 2005, we completed a millenium of P90 computation, just a day before finishing our 300th exponent.
- On Saturday, March 5, 2005, we entered the top 50 producers list, with over 400 exponents cleared.
- On Wednesday, May 18, 2005, we celebrated our first anniversary of computation with GIMPS. With over 2050 CPU years of computation completed, and averaging almost 50000 CPU hours per day, we now rank 33rd on the top producers list.
- On Saturday, July 2, 2005, we entered the top 25 producers, with over 2400 CPU years completed and over 650 exponents cleared.
- On Sunday, July 10, 2005, we entered the top 500 factoring producers list, with 8.76 CPU years spent factoring.
- On Sunday, October 9, 2005, we entered the top 20 producers list, and completed 3 CPU millenia of computing.
